  • Magnifying Glass

Looking through a magnifying glass enhances the resolution of objects of interest; looking through it, however, loses the details of the surroundings - relatively, sometimes to a great extent. Having been mydriased and anaesthesised for a visual checkup in the morning, my eyes were dry and weary. This suffering became the magnifying glass focusing on myself, and myself only.

Dragging myself home from dinner, I finally arrived at the front gate of my estate. Just as always, I entered the entrance code sluggishly, as if there was nobody waiting for the gate to open. All of a sudden, there was this lady who rushed in as I finally pressed "enter" on the keypad. She looked so irritated, which in turn, irritated me. She instructed me to act faster. "Why could people on earth irritate this poor boy with blurred vision and general malaise?" As a matter of manner, I let her go down the stairs before me. Feeling much offended, I kept an ear on what she was talking on the phone. She was explaining to her boss on her early-leave today which the reason petrified me - her daughter cried and complained of severe ear pain and she had to bring her daughter to the hospital. I stood at the doorway for ten seconds, leaving myself in shame - my suffering had become a magnifying glass which overlooked other people's suffering.
